Repurposing Plastic Beach Debris

Along the surf line of a seemingly pristine beach on the Bahamian island of Eleuthera, fashion designer Barbara de Vries spotted some pretty specks of color, which turned out to be pieces of discarded plastic. And so, what started out as a vacation turned into a new career - raising awareness about plastic debris through art. De Vries marvels at the poetic justice of picking up plastic on a beach, taking ownership of the problem, repurposing the plastic into high fashion jewelry, and having it sold back right on the same beach.

One Beach

Why do we love the beach? "Maybe we love the beach because we carry the sea within us, a heart full of ocean pumping a rhythm, a rhythm, a rhythm..." But our beaches are currently filled with plastic debris, littered or washed up from across the sea. This film highlights the work of five individuals and organizations that are caring for their ONE beach with creative solutions. Their message? Take ownership of this plastic. And while you are at it, pick it up and do something creative with it.

The Most Astounding Fact

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson tells us what astonishes him most about our universe: that the atoms comprising our bodies are literally made of star-dust. "So that when I look up at the night sky and I know that yes, we are part of this universe, we are in this universe, but perhaps more important than both of those facts is that the universe is in us," he says. "There is a level of connectivity" - which is what most of us want in life: to feel connected, relevant.

Dr. Peter Fenwick: Consciousness And Dying

Is there an art to dying? And if there is, what can we do to achieve a good death? We have few special rituals to prepare for death, or to mark it, and we often fail to help the dying prepare for death. "The Art of Dying" contains accounts by the dying, and those who have been with the dying in their final hours, which help us to understand that death is a process. The experiences suggest that we are looked after throughout the transition from life to death, and taken on a journey into love and light by loved ones who come back to take us.

Paradise Or Oblivion

This documentary details the root causes of the systemic value disorders and detrimental symptoms caused by our current established system. This video presentation advocates a new socio-economic system, which is updated to present-day knowledge, featuring the life-long work of Social Engineer, Futurist, Inventor and Industrial Designer Jacque Fresco, which he calls a Resource-Based Economy.
The film details the need to outgrow the dated and inefficient methods of politics, law, business, or any other 'establishment' notions of human affairs, and use the methods of science, combined with high technology, to provide for the needs of all the world's people. It is not based on the opinions of the political and financial elite or on illusionary so-called democracies, but on maintaining a dynamic equilibrium with the planet that could ultimately provide abundance for all people.

Invisible Empire: A New World Order Defined

Jason Bermas’ highly anticipated documentary Invisible Empire exposes the New World Order in their own words, by painstakingly showing how the elite have not only conspired to create a dictatorial global government in private, but have publicly stated their agenda hundreds of times in public.
By highlighting the words of people like Paul Wolfowitz, Michael Mullen, David Cameron, Gordon Brown and many many others, Invisible Empire dispenses with the conjecture and sticks to the cold hard facts. This movie is guaranteed to wake up even the most ardent skeptic to the manifestly provable acceleration towards an authoritarian planetary regime that intends to control and regulate every aspect of our existence.

Sacred Economics

Moved by the possibility of a return to the "gift economy," director Ian MacKenzie felt compelled to "gift back" by spreading the message of Charles Eisenstein's book, "Sacred Economics." Eisenstein asserts that scarcity and growth are built into our current money system; a system that means that you have to find something that was once nature and make it into a good, or was once a gift relationship and make it into a service. This growth can only be maintained at a higher and higher cost. In healing the damage that has already been done, we must transition to a more connected, ecological and sustainable way of being.

Off Grid, DIY, Smart Home

On an off-grid property in Philo, California (Mendocino County), Loren Amelang built a home that would help him generate 'free hot water, free power and a decent chunk of free heat'. The entire south side of his home is covered in solar capture devices: 1600 watts of photovoltaic power, solar hot water panels, a sunroom/greenhouse and a solar hot air collector. 'The sunroom/greenhouse provides most of the free heat'. Putting his technical skills to use (he's a pioneer in C++ programming), Amelang wrote over 10,000 lines of code so that his home's water and electric systems could be operated more efficiently and automatically. An added benefit is the ability to control everything remotely, by even just an iPhone. Since he built most of the home himself (the person he hired to do it decades ago, spent all the money and built half the house), Amelang has made it very custom. He avoided using aluminum and plastic (except for the insulation on the wiring) and he wired it for pure DC lighting (which makes sense with solar, but Amelang also likes how 'peaceful' DC lighting feels).
